It's the weekend.
Selenga was sleeping. In her dreams, something was happening—a jumbled dream.
Then a smell arrived.
Butter. And eggs.
Her eyes opened.
The Kitchen
Selenga got up. Her hair was messy. Her eyes were still half-closed.
She walked to the kitchen.
Her dad was holding a pan. Wearing his shirt. Slippers on his feet. His hair was messy—just like Selenga's.
“Dad?”
“Good morning, sweetheart. Come, sit down.”
The Table
She looked at the table.
Cheese. Olives. Tomatoes—sliced. Bread—cut thin.
And in the middle, orange juice. In a glass. Freshly squeezed.
“Did you make all this?”
“I did.”
“When did you wake up?”
“A long time ago. While you were sleeping.”
Selenga sat at the table. She still wasn't fully awake.
“Why?”
"Because on weekends there's time. And I wanted to eat with you."
The Tomato
Selenga picked up a slice of tomato.
She bit into it.
It was cold. Juicy.
“Did you get this from the fridge?”
“Yes. You like it cold.”
Selenga looked at her dad. “How did you know?”
“Of course I know. I know everything.”
“Everything?”
Dad laughed. “Not everything. But the important things.”
“Which things are important?”
“That the tomato is cold. That the orange juice is fresh. That your hair is messy in the morning.”
Selenga laughed. “Is that last one important?”
“The most important.”
A Slow Breakfast
They ate slowly together.
Dad told her something. Selenga listened.
Selenga told him something. Dad listened.
Conversation flowed. It paused. It started again.
Sunlight hit the table. The orange juice gleamed.
Selenga lifted her glass. She took the last sip.
“Dad?”
“Hmm?”
“This was the most beautiful breakfast of my life.”
Dad stopped. He put down his glass.
“Why?”
“Because I was with you.”
A Note for Parents
Turn your weekend breakfast into a ritual. No phones, no screens—just a table, food, and conversation. These are the moments children remember most when they grow up. The simplest moments often become the most precious memories. Make time for unhurried mornings with your child. Let them see that your presence is the greatest gift you can offer.
